Teaching
Would you like to help teach the children ? - helpers, asst. teachers and teachers courses are run throughout the region.
Lane helpers
We are always in need of lane helpers - ie reading what we have put on the board - so we can get out and teach rather than standing at the top of the lane giving instructions !!
Admin
Can you help with the administration? From helping at the desk for an hour a couple of times a month, organising a stock book and items, to helping give out notes, organise the gala programme, timekeep, organise desk rotas, fund raise, help with trips, being trophy custodian, writing pieces for the paper after galas, the list is endless...
Being aware - know what’s going on - be involved..
Please read the notice board and each edition of SPLASH!, and don’t be afraid to ask ..............
Joining the committee
There are plenty of jobs on committee for parents to help out with. Each AGM we vote in our committee - Chair, Hon.Secretary, Hon.Treasurer, CPO, Membership secretary, and 7 other committee members who sit at various times during the swimming season for the running of the club. Any issues that you require to have raised at these meeting should be put in writing and sent through to the chair before the meeting. Committee members will organise the galas, run the administrative day to day needs of the club, try and diseminate information appropriate and necessary for all members. Several sub committee’s may be created to be in charge of various tasks - eg fund raising, teas for galas, trophy custodian, stock and swim shop, desk duties and other events arising from time to time.
There is a coaches committee which is made of of all coaches / teachers / assist. Teachers / helpers etc. The Coaches Committee meeting is scheduled to run on the 2nd Mon/Tues (alternating - starting with Tuesday 11th September 2007) of each month. The management committee are looking at meeting on the 3rd Tues/Mon of each month.
Both meetings are open and any member is welcome to join, although we stress that it is unlikely that any subject can be brought to the committee in this way - agendas are fixed a few days before the meetings and anything needing to be brought up will need to have been written in previously, unless the committee is in agreement that they can deal with it at that meeting.
When we arrived at the club the secretary had been there for years - from memory - certainly over a decade. Several of the coaches had been there for the same amount of time and the treasury was passed from the Hon treasurer to the Ass treasurer on a 3 year revolving basis. We adopted the same formula for the other posts, so in effect we are trying to make sure that every member takes turns in doing some of the administrative duties in the club. No one in this club is paid in any way for their work. Members are, however, able to claim back any expenses incurred for any costs incurred in their work for the club - paper, stamps, etc.
If, for any reason, you are unable to support your club in manner of helping out, please then, at the very least, make sure that you are proactive in making sure that you know what is going on and read the notice board regularly. Every swimmer in the club receives free coaching and in return we ask that you support your club by making sure you DO try and help out, make sure that your swimmers are prepared, on time, have all the right kit - paddles, fins, 2 x goggles and towels, etc., and that, where necessary, your swimmer is prepared to commit to attending regularly and competing for the club when on the team.
The club is run by an elected committee made up of parents of the swimmers. Teaching staff are all volunteers. Parents are expected to help out while their children are members and there are plenty of jobs to be done.
By helping out for, at least, half an hour each week the loads are greatly reduced for those that find themselves giving between 5 and 15 hours of their time each week, and at weekends
(both Sat and Sun)
