Summary report:

  • Swimming started at 6.10pm and at the end of the Breast-stroke races the scores were level at 100 each.  There was good support from the gallery and the scores never went more than 6 points apart.
  • With JDLC being a five-lane pool the visitors had first choice as to who they would swim in the extra lane, (i.e. lane 1).  It was unusual that they elected to swim their girls in the extra lane. This meant that we were able to spread the swims out over more of our boys squad and we swam three boys in each individual race.  Some girls who would normally have been swimming more got fewer opportunities as a result. It is a case of “swings and roundabouts”.
  • The tension and excitement mounted through the freestyle relays with two wins for Ballymoney and one for the visitors. After a quick check at the desk we knew that there were only two points separating the scores with the final race to go.
  • With their coaches, team-mates and gallery supporters shouting their encouragement the “D” group relay squad took to the water and landed the first Teletots victory of the season.
  • With the racing concluded by 7.25 pm next came the reward and we had an excellent tea, in good Ballymoney style, organised by Gwen, Marian and Joanne, (apologies to anyone else who helped who I have overlooked). Thanks again to Ian for sourcing the crisps and drinks for the swimmers.
  • In keeping with our new-found tradition, we recognised the impending birthday of one of the stars of the evening, Megan de Jode, who celebrated reaching 9 years of age with an individual tally of FOUR race wins, (well done Megan, mummy was well chuffed!).
  • Of course the whole team had put in a fantastic effort to achieve this result and with 20 race wins and dozens of PB’s it was no wonder that we gave Banbridge such a great competition. Well done to one and all.
