Youth and Age Group CHAMPIONSHIPS March 2015
During an intense 3-day Ulster Age Groups Swimming Gala on the last weekend in March at Bangor, 4 Ballymoney swimmers competed in a total of 15 individual events resulting in 5 finals, 9 PB’s, 12 Irish Age Group Division 2 Qualifying times and 1 Irish Age Group Division 1 Qualifying time. Sadly there were no medals, but the swimmers all swam superbly.
An early start on Day 1 involved Andrew Harris competing in the 400m Individual Medley where he finished 8th plus the 200m Backstroke; Reuben Hutchinson competing in the 100m Breaststroke where he achieved a Personal Best time & Qualified for his first IAG Div.2 gala. Liam Webb also competed in the 100m Breaststroke in a Div.2 qualifying time plus the 200m Freestyle qualifying 9th for the final with a PB & IAG Div.2 Qualifying time.
The U12 Medley relay team of Liam, Reuben, Andrew & James Wright swam their socks off at 7.30pm narrowly missing out on a bronze medal by 0.45sec. The end of a long day!
Day 2 was another early start. Cara Telfer achieved PB’s & qualified for the IAG Div.2 gala in both the 200m IM & 100m Backstroke. Liam had mixed fortunes in the morning qualifying 9th for the 100m Freestyle final where he improved to 8th, finished 12th in 200m Breaststroke, both in IAG Div.2 times, & a disastrous time in the 100m Fly. He still qualified for the final & achieved an IAG Division 1 time (by 0.1sec) improving to 7th place. Andrew competed in his second 1500m event and achieved a Div.2 time with a huge PB of 1min 3sec to finish 7th overall. Another long day going home after 7pm.
Day 3 was a very early start for Andrew & Liam in the first event after the clocks went forward! 200m IM. Both boys achieved PB’s of over 3 seconds with Liam qualifying for the final in 5th place in a IAG Div.2 time. Unfortunately a small injury during the final meant he came 8th. Liam also swam Div.2 qualifying times in the 400m Freestyle & 100m backstroke where he just missed out on a final place coming 11th with a small PB. Home by teatime!!

Entry to the club
New member registration takes place each year during the last two weeks of May. Membership application forms are available on line in May and also at the swim desk during the last two weeks of May. The completed forms must be returned to the swim desk at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre by the closing date. No late applications will be accepted.
The child must be 4 years of age at entry date and meet the selection criteria.
Once the existing members re-apply early June, we will then know what places are available and in which session. Applicants with swimming experience will be asked to attend for an assessment in June. The children are then allocated a session according to the available spaces and ability.
These children will be notified for commencement September/October.
Unsuccessful applicants remain on a waiting list and the existing swimmers are continually re-assessed throughout the year. If spaces become available the applicant will be notified. A new waiting list is compiled each year in May and you have to re-apply each year. Admission to the club is agreed by the committee to ensure fairness.
